I grew up in logistics
I grew up in logistics—even before that was what we called it.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are of going to “the depot” with my parents: my brother and I playing around in the office and talking to drivers when they came back from their day. There was once a break-in, and my brother and I “investigated”—considering suspects, looking for clues, and asking questions.
It was just part of growing up.
I’ve worked throughout the operation
I’ve been working in warehousing and transportation for half my life. My first job, when I was 15, was warehouse project work: relabelling bottles of whisky—yes, at 15…it was a different time—repacking products and sorting breakage.
Now, I run large logistics operations across multiple sites with multimillion-dollar budgets. I’ve done nearly everything in between, from picking orders and driving forklifts to route planning, customer service management, and project management.
It’s been the only real field I’ve worked in.
At the core, I’m a logistics nerd
When I go to Costco, I wonder about the replenishment strategy. Seriously—I try to understand how they balance the risk of a bin going empty against the risk of over-replenishment.
If I’m outside a supermarket, I’ll look at the receiving area to understand how deliveries are handled and how a driver would need to approach from the main arterial road to set up for the delivery.
That’s just what goes through my head on a normal day.
